In November 2011, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) was established through an Act of Parliament to oversee the work of the police in Kenya and provide civilian oversight. The first Board was sworn into office in June 2012, marking the beginning of IPOA’s role in promoting police accountability and enhancing public confidence in law enforcement.
